Paul Rodio has been the basketball coach at St. Augustine Prep for a long time-since Jimmy Carter was President.

So when Rodio picked up his 800th win last night in the Hermits 70-45 victory over Lower Cape May Regional you might think it was just about time.  After all, if you do something long enough, you're bound to build up some impressive win totals, right? Wrong.

Paul Rodio has an amazing 37-year career record of 800-221.  His 800 wins with St. Augustine means the coach has averaged more 21 wins a year during that tenure! How many of us can say we've been consistent winners for 37 years?

Coach Rodio becomes only the third coach in New Jersey history to reach the 800 win landmark, joining north Jersey coaching legends Bob Hurley and Jerry Malloy.

Coach Rodio was typically modest last night when asked about his accomplishment, telling The Press of Atlantic City, "Getting 800 wins means I've been around for a long time.  I'm just extremely thankful to the school for giving me so many opportunities.  Not too many coaches get their first varsity job at 24 years old, and not many get to coach every game for the same school like I have. I'm very blessed."

That is the attitude of an 800 game winner. Those blessings go both ways, coach. Congratulations!
