South Florida-based low-cost-carrier Spirit Airlines has become the largest international airline operating out of Fort Lauderdale, according to simplyflying.com.

Beginning on July 9, Spirit will fly to Fort Lauderdale three times per day, up from two.

Also on July 9, service to Orlando will increase to 19 flights per week, up from 14 flights weekly.

And beginning on June 13, Spirit will fly to Myrtle Beach nine times per week, up from seven.

Stephen Dougherty, executive director of South Jersey Transportation Authority, which runs the Atlantic City airport, told NJ.com the added flights on the low-cost carrier were in response to increased demand in the region.
