South Jersey Mall Makeover Will Add More Movie Screens, Shops

A multi-million dollar expansion and renovation of Frank Theatres' Rio Grande location is set to debut in April, with even more changes set for the Rio Mall.

The mall will be losing its anchor store, Kmart, when it closes in March, and so it is time to rethink the future of the shopping center.

Frank Theatres, which owns the Rio Mall on Rt 9, has big plans for their movie theater and for new mall merchants, too, according to Bruce Frank.

The Frank Theatre president and CEO told Shore News Today they plan to expand to a 12-theater-complex, with the latest in technology and amenities.

“The addition was a multi million dollar investment in itself,” he said. “In addition to the four new screens and 500 additional seats, there will be all new seating for all of the screens.”

“Two of the screens will be wall-to-wall 3D screens. And we’re going to enhance a lot of the food offerings, including pizza, burgers and fries, and chicken tenders.”

 

You can expect to see the improvements to the new Frank Theatres Rio Stadium 12 by April, with the retail additions later. Frank adds they have as many as six new businesses interested in opening locations in Rio Mall.
