The fire started when a piece of food service equipment ignited outside the team locker rooms and was quickly extinguished. The game between Dayton and Xavier was not interrupted.

Boardwalk Hall management says in a statement there was no damage and the sprinkler system quickly put out the fire.

After the building became smoky late in the second half, the public address announcer said the fire had been extinguished and there “was no cause for alarm.”

Boardwalk Hall management says at “no time” were teams or fans in any danger. The Atlantic City Fire Department responded and gave the “all clear.” Teams were permitted to return to the locker rooms.
