Rocket Warhead Discovered On Atlantic City Beach

Police tell The Press of Atlantic City that the Army Corps of Engineers uncovered a 2.75-inch rocket warhead around 2:30 p.m. Saturday while conducting a beach replenishment project in the area of New Hampshire Avenue.

Members of the police bomb squad soon responded and removed the warhead, which was taken to an undisclosed location where it will be destroyed.

It still wasn’t clear Sunday where the warhead came from or whether it was live.

The discovery of such ordnance is a common occurrence along New Jersey’s coast, due in large part to military activity that occurred during the Revolutionary War and both world wars.
