Galloway Twp. Police want everyone who attends high school football games played at Greater Egg Harbor Regional School District schools to know that they won't allow fights, disorderly conduct, and bad behavior.

That warning from Galloway Twp. Police Chief Donna Higbee came after incidents in two recent games that led to the arrests of eight students from different high schools around  Atlantic County.

The two games were home-field losses at Absegami on Friday, Sept. 17 vs. Cedar Creek, and Friday, Sept. 24 vs. Egg Harbor Township.

Cedar Creek is a Greater Egg Harbor Regional High School District rival of Absegami.

In her Facebook statement, Chief Higbee tried to make it clear that she won't tolerate a repeat of that bad behavior.

The physical fights and aggressive behavior that occurred in recent weeks will be met with swift and certain discipline by school officials and the police. We are here to provide a safe environment for everyone including attendees, staff and the players. Our relationship with the school district is steadfast and we work hand in hand to ensure safety and a great time for all. It is important to clarify that although several local students were arrested there were also many students from other high schools that were arrested as well. This message should be for all guardians who allow their children to attend high school sporting events unsupervised.

The police chief also included a message to the parents of students attending these games unsupervised.

Please have a discussion with your children about proper behavior and also safety and where to go and what to do if they find themselves in the vicinity of a large crowd or a fight. Students should not attempt to get involved once police arrive and should stay away from an altercation and allow the police to do their job. This is for everyone’s safety.

There will be an increased police presence at games, Higbee said. Absegami’s next home game is Friday, Oct. 22, vs. Seneca High School from Burlington County. Absegami will host Clearview Regional on Oct. 29 and district rival Oakcrest on Nov. 24, the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving.
