A Valentine's Day investigation of a suspicious ID at TD Bank in Absecon turned into a major identity theft and narcotics bust for Absecon Police.

According to a police press release on Facebook, police responded to a call from the bank Sunday afternoon about a man trying to obtain an atm card with fictitious identification.

When police began to investigate the two suspects, William F. Newhart, 42, of Bergenfield, NJ and Jesse W. Rawding, 28, of Wilmington, DE  they found they had the tools used for the crime of identity theft.

As the investigation continued, police found the men were also in possession of a substantial amount of narcotics.

William Newhart has been charged for possession of marijuana, methamphetamine,  mushrooms, GHB, and drug paraphernalia. He also faces distribution charges, credit card theft, possession of a scanning device, identity theft, having false government documents, document making Material, conspiracy and receiving stolen property.

Jesse Rawding has been charged with possession of methamphetamine, mushrooms, GHB, marijuana, prescription legend drugs (2 counts),drug paraphernalia, failure to make lawful disposition, conspiracy, and CDS distribution.

Detectives from Absecon Police are now working to notify potential identity theft victims in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The Absecon Police Department is coordinating with other agencies to investigate additional offenses of fraud/forgery.
