Pleasantville Police have charged a teen with assault by auto and leaving the scene of a crash for allegedly running down a woman standing on a sidewalk and dragging her 75 feet while riding a dirt bike through the streets of Pleasantville last month.

According to a press release from Pleasantville police...

a 17 y/o juvenile male from Pleasantville has been arrested and charged in the vehicular assault which occurred on August 5th. The juvenile male was operating a dirt bike recklessly on Main Street in the area of West Jersey Avenue when he drove up onto the sidewalk and struck 27 y/o Elza Jeanty-Excellent of Galloway causing her serious injuries. The accused juvenile then fled the scene without rendering aid to his victim or contacting authorities to report the crash.

Police credit community support and a tenacious police investigation in the suspected rider's apprehension. The teen, who faces multiple charges has released pending court.

In the press release, Chief Riggin congratulated the investigating officers and the multiple tipsters who helped bring this case to a close.

"This case is the latest example of what we can do as a community, when we are able to work together, police and the public, to fight crime and arrest offenders. Ms Jeanty-Excellent deserved far better than to be left bleeding on the sidewalk after the reckless actions of this young man. Now Ms Jeanty-Excellent and her family see that they are part of a community who truly does care for her and the rider will have his day before the judge to answer for his actions."
