Philly Woman Saved From Drowning After Hours on AC Beach

A woman swimming after lifeguard hours on the Atlantic City beach Tuesday is lucky to be alive after getting caught in a rip current and losing consciousness in the ocean.

According to the Press of Atlantic City, a 21-year old woman was swimming on the Atlantic City beach with her younger sister and her brother Tuesday at Martin Luther King Blvd., an area with a jetty known for causing swimming difficulty. The beach has signs saying "Danger, No Swimming".

The woman's brother realized his sisters were caught in a rip current and in trouble. He was able to pull his unconscious sister on to the jetty's rocks.

Fire Chief Scott Evans told the Press of Atlantic City that two Atlantic City firefighters and a member of the beach patrol arrived on scene via a jet ski, moving the woman off the rocks to the beach and performing CPR, saving her life.

Another man who had tried to help save the woman slipped on the jetty and hurt his leg.

The two sisters and the man injured were all taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center City Campus.

Be warned, rough surf and a moderate risk of rip currents is forecast for Wednesday in South Jersey. Only swim on guarded beached during assigned hours.
