Every Thursday morning at 7:15am on the Lite Rock Morning Show, the Humane Society of Ocean City brings in the new Lite Rock Pet of the Week.

If you are thinking about adding a pet to your family, please consider adopting from the Humane Society of Ocean City, a no-kill shelter recognized as one of the nation’s top ten animal shelters. All of the animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped before adoption.

All animals also receive an Alumni Card which entitles them to a 10% lifetime discount for veterinary services at the Humane Society of Ocean City clinic.

This week we met “Peyton" the cat. Peyton is a 2-3 year old female black domestic short haired cat.

" Peyton was abandoned in a feral cat colony. The colony’s caretaker immediately noticed that she didn’t belong but noticed her left ear was tipped (it is commonly known among anyone that does Trap, Neuter & Release (TNR) that this is a sign that the cat has been altered and vaccinated).

Peyton was timid but kept trying to approach the caretaker, but was chased away by some the existing colony cats. The caretaker was afraid that Peyton was unable to fend for herself or get food since she was so intimidated by the other cats. She was trapped and brought to the HSOC for a chance to get a home.

It is unknown if Peyton ever really had a home, but she’s extremely affectionate and loves belly rubs. It takes her a few minutes to warm up but once she does she loves to be pet and purrs up a storm.

It would take some time and patience but Peyton would make a wonderful loyal companion to a quiet home preferably without small children. She would probably be okay with 1 or 2 other cats or a calm dog."
