One of the most popular meteor showers of the year will take place over the skies of South Jersey. Attention stargazers, it's time to get ready for the Perseid Meteor Shower eruption this weekend!

According to Fred Schaaf reporting for the Atlantic City Press, we may be able to see 50 to 60 shooting stars an hour during the peak of the Perseid Meteor shower which will happen between August 11 and 13th.

According to Space.com, the peak time to view the Perseid meteor shower will be the overnight hours of August 11th and 12th. The meteor shower will seem to arise from the constellation called Perseus. A meteor shower consists of pieces of comet debris. A burst of light will occur once the debris enter the atmosphere.

Here are some meteor shower viewing tips from Earthsky.org.

  1. Dress warmly.
  2. Know the peak time and day of the shower.
  3. Bring a comfortable lawn chair or blanket.
  4. A thermos of coffee or tea will also keep you warm.
