Every Thursday morning at 7:15am on the Lite Rock Morning Show, the Humane Society of Ocean City brings in the new Lite Rock Pet of the Week.

If you are thinking about adding a pet to your family, please consider adopting from the Humane Society of Ocean City, a no-kill shelter recognized as one of the nation’s top ten animal shelters.

All of the animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped before adoption. All animals also receive an Alumni Card which entitles them to a 10% lifetime discount for veterinary services at the Humane Society of Ocean City clinic.

This week we met Pearl the cat…

Here is some information on Pearl from the Humane Society of Ocean City:

“Pearl is a medium to large framed solid black domestic short haired cat. She is approximately 5-8 years old. She appeared on a oc residents door step after super storm Sandy. This kind lady was never able to lay hands on pearl but fed her for the next 4 years. Unfortunately, she was relocating out of OC and did not want to leave pearl behind without a caretaker.

It would take a few weeks before pearl would finally be caught and brought to the HSOC. Shelter staff was surprised to find that pearl had already been spayed, in great shape and was friendly. It was surmised that maybe she had been someone's cat and had gotten displaced during the storm. Now she had a second chance to get a home. Pearl did get that chance and after 2 months of working with her daily, she just couldn't get used to being a house cat. She could not bond and hid the entire time. So pearl was returned to us.

At this point, we believe that Pearl may have been an outside cat her entire life. We also think that she has always had a caretaker and is used to being fed. That is where her dependence on humans ends. Pearl would make a great barn cat or mouser. She would need confinement at first to learn where she lives. She is independent and requires only to be fed daily when she adjusts to her new surroundings. If you think Pearl fits your situation, please visit or contact the HSOC"

If you would like to visit Pearl or need more information about any animal up for adoption at The Humane Society of Ocean City, call 609-398-9500 or stop in any day between 11a-3p.
