A 23-year-old man named Boyan Slat may have come up with the genius invention that will be used to clean the garbage and plastic from ALL of our oceans, lakes, and rivers.

It is called the Ocean Cleanup Project and here is how it works.

There is a large pipe in a U-shaped design with netting below that will gather the trash that is pushed into it from natural currents.

Sea life will not be affected because while debris will be gathered by the net, it does not extend too deep so fish and other creatures can swim out from under the contraption.

Professionals, of course, have their worries that different garbage made of different materials float at different depths but I must say this is an impressive start to get the massive amount of garbage in the ocean OUT.

Professionals also have criticized that a massive amount of the efforts should be to avoid the plastic making its way into the ocean to begin with.

However, one can argue that there is an overflowing amount of garbage in the ocean already as it is. We can start to be preventative but that garbage must be removed and dealt with so our preventative efforts actually mean something.

So, what do you think?
