A North Cape May man is dead after a deadly crash along the Garden State Parkway in near Tuckerton, Ocean County. The crash happened early Sunday morning near exit 58 for the Tuckerton exit in Little Egg Harbor Township.

State Police told the Asbury Park Press that the incident occurred at 2:21 a.m. in the Parkway’s northbound lane when the victim, Stephen M. Chiarle, 48, was stopped in his 2010 Ford Edge.

Chiarle's vehicle was struck by a 2009 Honda CRV traveling north and driven by Stephen M. Izzo, 35, of Milmay, N.J.

Chiarle had created his own Go Fund Me page titled "failing on hard times" in September, where he wrote he was a "single father" to eight children and was having financial difficulties.

It is unclear if Chiarle was stopped in the roadway or was pulled over to the side. Police stated that Izzo suffered “serious injuries,” but had no more information on his condition or any hospitalization.

The investigation in to the crash caused a three-and-a-half hour closure of that portion of the Parkway, police said.
