Delays are expected for Wednesday’s evening commute on three NJ Transit rail lines due to signal problems.

The problem is centered on tracks owned by Amtrak south of Newark Penn Station. NJ Transit says the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast and Raritan Valley Lines are affected.

Trains are delayed 20 to 30 minutes in both directions, and the delays are expected to remain into the evening commute. NJ Transit spokesman John Durso Jr. says travelers should allow extra time to get their final destination.

Amtrak says its trains are experiencing 10- to 20-minute delays but that those could lengthen as the evening commute arrives. Amtrak crews have been working on the problem since late morning.
