New Jersey State Police have issued an alert concerning a series of scam calls that have been received recently by residents.  The callers say they are New Jersey State Police officers and are using a legitimate State Police phone number, but have no connection to the State Police. The callers are requesting information such as social security number and date of birth.

During the calls, a man with a foreign accent will inform the victim that they are police officers with the New Jersey State Police. They attempt to frighten victims by claiming that they have received multiple complaints associated with their Social Security number, according to the police advisory.

The New Jersey State Police will never call you requesting personal information like your Social Security number or your date of birth. If you receive such a call, State Police suggest you hang up immediately call your local police department or State Police Station.
