Well don't I wish that a rule like this passed while I was in high school.

Governor Phil Murphy signed a law that puts a brand new experiment into affect.

Five New Jersey high schools are going to start the school day after 8:30 AM this upcoming school year because studies have shown teenagers are not getting enough rest due to their hectic schedules.

“Adolescents are not getting enough sleep to live up to their full academic potential, and early school start times are to blame,” said Senator Richard Codey, D-Essex, who championed the proposal. This isn’t just an idea, research backs up this problem.”

*Cough* *Cough* Again...where was this idea when I was in high school? Between school, clubs and sports, kids have been sludging through 12-hour days for years now!

What we do not know just yet is which schools will be chosen for the experiment. At least one urban, suburban and rural high school must be chosen and schools from different regions of the state must be included.

This means that a high school from South Jersey could be one of the chosen schools! Would that make you happy? I am sure the students would be thrilled.

However, one major concern regarding this experiment is the theory that teenagers are staying up too late and not using their free time to get the proper rest and that if start times are delayed, they will just stay up even later.

I have to say that I was a student who truly needed sleep and that a lot of my friends operated similarly. Don't let a few of the bad eggs that can survive on less sleep ruin it for the rest.

But seriously...WHERE WAS THIS IDEA WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL?!
