New Details on Springsteen DWI Bust – Does This Change Things?

When the news broke Wednesday that Bruce Springsteen had been arrested for drunk driving back in November, it struck many fans as surprising. Bruce seems like a fairly level-headed guy, who should have more sense than to do something so stupid.

While new details about the arrest don't necessarily exonerate the Boss, they do seem to call into question the circumstances of the arrest.

Wednesday, Townsquare Media reported that Springsteen was arrested in November in the Gateway National Recreation Area in Sandy Hook and received three citations: DWI, reckless driving, and consuming alcohol in a closed area.

A Park Service spokeswoman told NBC that Springsteen was "cooperative throughout the process." He is reportedly expected to appear in a New Jersey court within the next few weeks.

Here's the update.

The New York Post quotes a source close to Springsteen as saying he was riding his motorcycle through the Sandy Hook park on Nov 14 when he was recognized by fans who asked him to pull over and take a photo with them.

“Bruce stopped, took the pictures, then a fan offered him a shot of liquor, which he took, while sitting on his bike, which was stationary. Park Police saw what happened and they immediately pulled Springsteen over as he drove away.”

The New York Post is quick to point out that they can't confirm that account of the incident with park police.

The Asbury Park Press is reporting that Springsteen's blood-alcohol content was 0.02. The legal threshold for drunk driving in New Jersey is .08.

Because the arrest took place on federal land, the case will be heard in federal court and will be handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Newark.
