2017 is turning out to be brutal year for retail -- and it keeps getting worse.

In addition to the 180 or so Sears and Kmart stores that have closed over the past few months, word leaked on Tuesday that another 72 stores will be shutting their doors. A handful of those stores are located in South Jersey.

Locally, the Kmart store on Route 72 in Manahawkin will be closing as will the legendary Sears store on Delsea Drive in Vineland.

I say the Sears in Vineland is legendary simply because it hasn't been touched, at least on the outside, in decades. It is one of the few stores where you can still see a "Sears Roebuck and Co." sign in bright red neon letters. At least for the next few months.

Business Insider, which obtained a list of the latest closings, says the aforementioned stores will be closed in September.
