Every Thursday morning at 7:15am on the Lite Rock Morning Show, the Humane Society of Ocean City brings in the new Lite Rock Pet of the Week.

If you are thinking about adding a pet to your family, please consider adopting from the Humane Society of Ocean City, a no-kill shelter recognized as one of the nation’s top ten animal shelters.

All of the animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped before adoption. All animals also receive an Alumni Card which entitles them to a 10% lifetime discount for veterinary services at the Humane Society of Ocean City clinic.

This week we met Mary and Ellen the dogs…

Here is some information on Mary and Ellen from the Humane Society of Ocean City:

"Mary and Ellen are female Chi-weenies (Chihuahua/Dachshund mix) who are about 2 yrs of age. Having made the arduous journey from Georgia to New Jersey...racing by the storms(!)...

They are sisters who absolutely love to do everything together! Like Thelma and Louise, but with only the happy parts! Mary is slightly larger than her sister and a little more reserved, she also looks more "Chihuahua" in the face than does Ellen who carries the Dacshund look.

Mary and Ellen run the gamut of typical small dog behaviors, which of course will steal your heart in a moment! They love to play and go for walks...and investigate everything you're doing! Personable, outgoing, and funny...these girls are energetic and super-sweet and full of kisses and cuddles, these little ladies are looking for an experienced human/family to call their own!

They would prefer familiarity with small pooches, even better if with their breed types, in their new home. The girls are looking for a home with older (pre-teens and up) kids, as the girls--while super-friendly--are a little short on social manners, and lots of human interaction!

Other dogs may be okay, meet n greet required. As always, are pooches are S/N, UTD on basics, and micro-chipped."

If you would like to visit Mary and Ellen or need more information about any animal up for adoption at The Humane Society of Ocean City, call 609-398-9500 or stop in any day between 11a-3p.

To adopt from the HSOC you will need one form of identification, which includes your name, permanent address and proof of ownership (i.e., local tax stub). If you rent, written approval from your landlord is required as well as personal identification. The adoption fee is $50.00 for cats or kittens and $85 for dogs, adults and puppies.

They accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and debit cards. Checks are accepted upon management’s approval. All adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, microchip if requested, free first vet exam, and all necessary vaccinations through the first year. Adoption applications are available at the shelter.
