Martin Luther King Day of Service Events [VIDEO]

In 1994, Congress designated the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday as a national day... of service and charged the Corporation for National and Community Service with leading this effort. Taking place each year on the third Monday in January, the MLK Day of Service is the only federal holiday observed as a national day of service – a "day on, not a day off."

Here are some suggestions for MLK Day commemorations and Day of Service events in South Jersey:

- The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey is hosting the 9th annual Day of Service.  Seven hundred volunteers are expected at 2 dozen locations around South Jersey, beginning at 9am

-Ocean City - The Clean Communities program holds its annual Clean Up Day, beginning at Stainton Senior Center, 1735 Simpson Ave. at 9am. 609-399-6111 # 9711

- Galloway Twp. Middle School hosts the 25th MLK Day event featuring the Absegami High School Choir and Drill/Step Club, 100 Reeds Road at 9am

- Pleasantville's Mt. Zion Church holds their annual M.L. King Jr.  Day service at noon, 353 South New Road

- Atlantic City's annual Martin Luther King Jr. March, beginning at the Martin Luther King complex, 1700 Marmora Road, Atlantic City at11am
