Paras Griffin/Getty Images for Universal Pictures[/caption]"Straight Outta Compton" is the name of hip-hop group N.W.A's first studio album, and it's also the name of the new movie about the band.  N.W.A. came onto the music scene in 1988 and changed hip-hop forever.  But the movie is not simply a story about gangsta rap.  It's a story about real life on the streets of Southern Los Angeles and how that life influenced a new genre of music.

"Straight Outta Compton" is an honest and often disturbing depiction of this tough, crime-ridden neighborhood.  The movie looks at the way real life played such a major role in developing this new style of music, and how the music heavily influenced pop culture.

N.W.A.'s story was not always pretty, and their music was almost always controversial.  But the movie does a good job in telling the story of a group of rappers who took their life experiences and used them to write songs that earned them a place in music history.  If that story sounds as interesting to you as it did to me, then go straight outta your house... and straight to the movies.  :)
