According to the book ‘The Secret’, the law of attraction will bring you whatever you send out to the world.  If you send out positive vibes, positive things will come to you.  And the same is true for negative vibes.

So it’s really all about positive thinking, and I’m all for that.  After all, nobody wants to be a Debbie Downer.  Or hang out with one.

But here’s the thing about the book I don’t get.  It’s basically saying that if you want something bad enough and you believe it will happen, then it absolutely will happen.  But what if it doesn’t happen?  I know that’s negative thinking, but the book makes it seem too easy to get what you want.

For instance, if I keep saying that I want money, one day it’s just going to come to me.  Like it’s just gonna fall from the sky and land at my feet.  For real?  Or if I save a spot in my driveway and my closet,  Prince Charming is just gonna ride up to my doorstep on his white horse and sweep me off my feet.  Really?  According to the book, that’s pretty much how it goes down.  But I don’t quite buy that.  I think if your wish doesn’t come true, you’re setting yourself up for major disappointment.  So I decided to do something else, and that is to lower my expectations.  In fact, I have pretty much no expectations anymore.  I figure then I can’t really be disappointed.  And if something good does happen, then it’s even more of a nice surprise.  Some people might call that negative thinking.  I call it reality.

But don’t get me wrong.  I may have no expectations about anyone or anything anymore.  However, I still am hopeful…about a lot of things.  And that’s why every single time I pass a fountain, you can be sure of one thing…I will always make a wish and throw in a lucky penny.  You know, maybe I do still have a few expectations left.  Here’s to all of them…
