Lower Township Man Killed in Alleged Break-In

A 21-year-old man was shot to death while allegedly breaking into a home in the Cold Spring section of Lower Township early Sunday morning.

James P. Weaver, Jr., of Cold Spring died of his wounds, according to Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor.

Lower Township Police received a call at approximately 3:15am Sunday about a person attempting to enter a home on the 700 block of Routes 109 in Cold Spring.

While the police were still enroute to the residence, they learned that the homeowner had shot the intruder after he broke through a glass door.

Weaver was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center where he died from his injuries.  The homeowner, whom police have not identified, was taken to Cape Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released.

The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time.
