Joey Tepper, the Longport Beach Patrol standout and Egg Harbor Township High swimmer is showing his talent on the international stage this week in South Africa, where he won the youth surf race at the International Surf Challenge U19 Championships on Saturday.

Tepper, 17, a senior at Egg Harbor Township High School and a two-time South Jersey Lifeguard Championships swim winner, qualified for the international competition with  strong performances at the U.S. Lifeguard Association Championships in August in Virginia Beach, according to the Press of Atlantic City.

Tepper also teamed with Diamond Beach lifeguard Gavin Loughlin to place fourth as part of the United States’ four-person youth mixed surf relay.

The International Surf Challenge U19 Championships continue through Wednesday.
