Every Thursday morning at 7:15am on the Lite Rock Morning Show, the Humane Society of Ocean City brings in the new Lite Rock Pet of the Week.

If you are thinking about adding a pet to your family, please consider adopting from the Humane Society of Ocean City, a no-kill shelter recognized as one of the nation’s top ten animal shelters.

All of the animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped before adoption. All animals also receive an Alumni Card which entitles them to a 10% lifetime discount for veterinary services at the Humane Society of Ocean City clinic.
This week we met Little Man the cat....

Here is some information on Little Man from the Humane Society of Ocean City:

Little Man is an XL brown and black striped domestic short haired cat with white feet and chest. He is about 7 years old.

Most of our stories are sad for the animal but not so much for the human. This one is heartbreaking on both sides.
Little Man was surrendered to the shelter along with his feline friend, Sweet Pea. Their owner has a debilitating disease that has rendered her unable to care for the cats any longer. She lives alone and is going to depend more and more on her relatives to help care for her. They refused to help care for the cats which gave her no choice but to surrender them to the HSOC. She was devastated to have to do so and still checks on them regularly.
Despite his shy personality, Little Man adjusted to the shelter within a week. While shelter staff is tending to his needs, he'll headbutt their hands to ask for some attention. He is quite a large cat but also overweight. He will need a restricted diet.
Little Man is used to a quiet home so a low activity household would be best. He is good with other cats but has never seen dogs. A feline friendly dog may be okay in time. He would prefer not to live with children but occasional visits should be okay. He doesn't mind being picked up or held but his size should be considered by a prospective adopter for lifting, taking to the vet, etc. He's a big boy! Come and see for yourself!

If you would like to visit Little Man or need more information about any animal up for adoption at The Humane Society of Ocean City, call 609-398-9500 or stop in any day between 11a-3p.

To adopt from the HSOC you will need one form of identification, which includes your name, permanent address and proof of ownership (i.e., local tax stub). If you rent, written approval from your landlord is required as well as personal identification. The adoption fee is $50.00 for cats or kittens and $85 for dogs, adults and puppies.

They accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and debit cards. Checks are accepted upon management’s approval.
