The Egg Harbor Township Planning Board has given the go-ahead for the building of a Lidl grocery store on the Black Horse Pike.

The Planning Board gave approval Monday night for the German discount grocer Lidl to open a store on part of the former Trocki Hebrew Academy site, at 6814 Black Horse Pike.

According to the Press of Atlantic City, construction of 35,000 square-foot store is expected to begin in early 2018, with its opening estimated to be 6-8 months later.

Lidl, a company that describes itself as ”a successful chain of grocery stores, expanding strongly throughout Europe, America and beyond”, has also received approval to open three new stores in Cumberland County.

Lidl (LEE-del), plans to join another German-owned grocery business, Aldi, by expanding heavily into the east coast of America, with 150 stores opening in 2017-18.

About 30 jobs are expected to be created by the opening of the Egg Harbor Township Lidl.
