Every Thursday morning at 7:15am on the Lite Rock Morning Show, the Humane Society of Ocean City brings in the new Lite Rock Pet of the Week.

If you are thinking about adding a pet to your family, please consider adopting from the Humane Society of Ocean City, a no-kill shelter recognized as one of the nation’s top ten animal shelters.

All of the animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped before adoption. All animals also receive an Alumni Card which entitles them to a 10% lifetime discount for veterinary services at the Humane Society of Ocean City clinic.

This week we met “Kazoo” the cat.

Here is some information on Kazoo from the Humane Society of Ocean City:

Kazoo is still here and looking for his forever home. He is just over 1 year old, which is a tough age to adopt out as most people looking for a kitten want something younger and those looking for an adult would like them to be out of the feisty kitten stage.

He is a feisty and very active orange tiger striped domestic short haired cat. Kazoo was brought to the HSOC by a man that had traveled to Philadelphia where Kazoo decided to hitch a ride in the bed of his pick up truck. He didn't realize that the kitten was in there until he arrived back in Ocean City.

Kazoo was only 6-8 weeks old at the time and was a bit worn out after his long trip and need a few weeks of TLC before he was ready for adoption.

Kazoo is an extremely active boy and needs to go to a home with other pets. He would be a wonderful buddy to a cat looking for a friend to romp around with. He likes to play rough so young children wouldn't be the right fit.

He would most likely do fine with dogs. Kazoo has an extremely affectionate side to him as well. It's no doubt that he will be a great adult companion but right now he has a lot of playfulness left in him and will need time to burn his energy before settling down."

If you would like to visit Kazoo or need more information about any animal up for adoption at The Humane Society of Ocean City, call 609-398-9500 or stop in any day between 11a-3p.To adopt from the HSOC you will need one form of identification, which includes your name, permanent address and proof of ownership (i.e., local tax stub).

If you rent, written approval from your landlord is required as well as personal identification. The adoption fee is $50.00 for cats or kittens and $85 for dogs, adults and puppies.

They accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and debit cards. Checks are accepted upon management’s approval. All adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, microchip if requested, free first vet exam, and all necessary vaccinations through the first year. Adoption applications are available at the shelter.
