Every Thursday morning at 7:15am on the Lite Rock Morning Show, the Humane Society of Ocean City brings in the new Lite Rock Pet of the Week.

If you are thinking about adding a pet to your family, please consider adopting from the Humane Society of Ocean City, a no-kill shelter recognized as one of the nation’s top ten animal shelters.

All of the animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped before adoption. All animals also receive an Alumni Card which entitles them to a 10% lifetime discount for veterinary services at the Humane Society of Ocean City clinic.

This week we met “Jezebel” the dog. Jezebel is a 14-month-old,  37-pound German shepherd mix.

Here is some information on Jezebel from the Humane Society of Ocean City:

“Jezebel is very intelligent and playful, but does have a quirky shyness to her. Make no mistake, she WANTS to bond with people and loves playing and being petted; however she does need patient folks to give her time to come around. She is NOT fearful, just kinda shy.

Jezzie warms quickly to strangers when in company of people she knows. Since having been transferred to HSOC from a high-volume kill shelter in Georgia early in March, Jezebel has flourished in our training/obedience classes, even learning tricks outside the curriculum! She knows sit, stay, down, come, “sit-up” (on hind legs, but on ground) and “army crawl”!

The ideal home for Jezebel should be patient and should be able to include children and any type of animal, though visitations are required; a moderately active home, as Jezzie is very young & LOVES to be outside doing things and playing! Jezebel commonly pulls her towels and blankets to the outside part of her doggie run to sit in the sun and breeze.

She rarely barks, is not hyper, and is exceedingly gentle. Not a lap dog, but definitely wants to be with you and do what you’re doing, I gotta say that she is pretty much the opposite of what her name-sake implies!

If you would like to visit Jezebel or need more information about any animal up for adoption at The Humane Society of Ocean City, call 609-399-2018 or stop in any day between 11a-3p.To adopt from the HSOC you will need one form of identification, which includes your name, permanent address and proof of ownership (i.e., local tax stub). If you rent, written approval from your landlord is required as well as personal identification. The adoption fee is $50.00 for cats or kittens and $85 for dogs, adults and puppies.

They accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and debit cards. Checks are accepted upon management’s approval. All adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, microchip if requested, free first vet exam, and all necessary vaccinations through the first year. Adoption applications are available at the shelter.
