The Insane Inflatable 5K at Six Flags Great Adventure is coming THIS Saturday and that means only one thing: it's game time! Throughout the week, make sure you are getting ready so that come Saturday, you are ready to give it your all.

1. Train In Advance

People underestimate just how strenuous a 5K race can actually be. Training in advance should definitely be done so your body knows what to expect. It is a bit tough to get ready in one week, but some preparation is better than none.

2. Hydrate

You should be drinking water to hydrate your body all week long. Of course you can drink prior to the race, but a continuous stream of water will keep your body ready and your muscles fresh. The day will be hot and trust me, you will sweat. Having a strong supply of water already in your blood stream ensures that you are ready to sweat for hours.

3. Carbs The Night Before

For the night before, I am talking a nice big bowl of pasta so you gear up before the big race. It avoids you having to consume a breakfast to have energy because in the morning, you will still be digesting your dinner from the night before.

4. Good Night's Sleep

To perform at your best, you must be rested. A good night's sleep, especially the night before, is key. Avoid going to sleep too early if you are racing in one of the later waves because then you way make up feeling groggy as opposed to rested.

5. Dress Your Best

The rule of thumb is to dress as if it is 15 degrees warmer than it actually is. Your body will heat up as you run and you do not want to overheat and be in desperate need of water during your race. If it is cold outside, wear a layer of sweats over your racing outfit to keep your blood flowing until it is time to get started.

6. Have Those Tutus Ready

A fun part of the Insane Inflatable 5K is that it is a race with a fun twist. I expect to see everyone decked out in their best team gear and a tutu or two to show some team spirit. I'll be wearing one, so we can match!
