'Whiplash' is a drama about a young aspiring drummer who is a new student at the top music conservatory in the country.  He is taught by a very strict instructor who pushes his students to the limit.

I asked someone who had just seen it what he thought, and he said, "Intense."  Boy, that's an understatement.  The movie is intense from beginning to end.

The instructor, played by J.K. Simmons, was so tough on his students that I literally had knots in my stomach watching him interact with his students.

The acting was intense, and so were the musical performances.  If you love music as much as I do or you are a musician (or just know a lot of musicians like I do), then I think you will totally appreciate this movie.

It shows the drive and dedication artists have and how nerve-wracking it is to be continually pushed to perform better.  And is it all worth it in the end?

See the movie and decide for yourself.  :)
