A fire burning as much as 900 acres in Wharton State Forest broke out Sunday morning on the border of Camden County and Burlington County.

Smoke could be seen and smelled more than 40 miles away.

This fire, the latest of several effecting the Pinelands in central and southern New Jersey this week, happened west of Rt 206, near Atsion Lake in Waterford, Camden County.

The fire is in such a remote area, a tweet from the N.J. Forest Fire Service referred to the fire site as " in (the) middle of nowhere".

No injuries have been reported and no structures have been effected. Crews had the fire approximately 50% contained as of 6 p.m. Sunday

A smaller fire burned 50 acres nearby in the Shamong area of Wharton State Forest on Friday.
