Holy Spirit Moving on From Head Basketball Coach Jamie Gillespie
After 15 seasons as the head basketball coach at Holy Spirit, Jamie Gillespie will not be returning for his 16th season.
"Earlier today I was informed by members of the Holy Spirit administration that I would not be returning for my 16th season as the Head Boys Basketball Coach, Gillespie said in a statement.
Gillespie, went 258-126 during his 15 seasons as the Spartans top decision maker, after spending 10 seasons as an assistant at the Absecon school. He was also key in the creation of the Cape-Atlantic League Tournament, an eight team tournament that crowns the top team in the league.
"The last 16 years coaching at Holy Spirit have been the very best of my life. My three boys literally grew up within the walls of Spartan Gymnasium," Gillespie said.
"I am proud of the impact I have had on the South Jersey Basketball Community. I was instrumental in the formation of the CAL Tournament and helped bring back the Seagull Classic to Holy Spirit. Additionally, I helped to transform the gym at Holy Spirit into one of the CAL’s best venues."
While at Holy Spirit, Gillespie's teams won two Cape-Atlantic League titles, made two other CAL finals and advanced to three sectional title games.
"I will miss it all," Gillespie stated.
