The Hammonton Fire Department got the call Wednesday evening to respond to a crash where a driver was trapped in an overturned vehicle.

Fire and rescue crews from the Hammonton Fire Department responded to a crash on North 3rd St. a little before 8pm Wednesday. They found a person trapped inside an overturned vehicle, according to a post on the fire department's Facebook page.

Crews worked to free and care for the driver who, from the looks of the crash photo,  was lucky to have suffered only minor injuries. The individual was treated on scene and then transported to AtlantiCare Health Park in Hammonton.

Then rescue crew encountered a complication when one of their own responding firefighters experienced a medical emergency on sight.

The statement from the fire department says that firefighters who are also EMTs provided immediate care until an ambulance arrived. The firefighter was also transported to the hospital, and was released after testing and evaluation.

The Hammonton Fire Department is comprised of the Hammonton Volunteer Fire Company (Station 1), and the Independent Volunteer Fire Company (Station 2).

Each fire company is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to serving the residents, businesses, and visitors of Hammonton.
