The 2020 edition of South Jersey Lifeguard races was beached due to the restrictions and ongoing concerns of the COVID-19.

Beach patrols all over South Jersey will now have something to look forward to this summer as the Lifeguard races are back for the summer of 2021.

The Press of Atlantic City reports that the South Jersey Lifeguard Chiefs Associations will now gear up for a full schedule of races starting at the beginning of July. The races will continue through the end of August.

Teams consisting of lifeguards from Brigantine to Cape May Point will once again compete against each other for bragging rights. There is already a date scheduled for the South Jersey Championships which is considered one of the premier races of the summer.

Guards from all over will gather on the beach in Longport on August 13th. Other races scheduled are the Longport memorials on July 2 and the Cape May County Lifeguard Championships are set for July 9.

My son was a lifeguard all through high school and college and he took the annual lifeguard races very seriously. He put in a lot of hard work and training to make sure he was in the best shape for the races and for the entire summer.

Lifeguards need to stay in shape to make sure they can handle any situation or challenge thrown at them while in the water.

LOOK: Here are the 50 best beach towns in America

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.

Keep reading to see if your favorite beach town made the cut.
