We live in a polarized time. You get your news from the station that leans to the left; he gets his from the channel all the way to the right Somehow, those two news outlets...

have a much different take on the same news story.

"Can't we all get along?" Isn't there anything that all Americans can believe and support?  Well, if you'd be happy with 90% in agreement, there are actually a few things most Americans believe in.

According to The Associated Press, 90% of Americans believe in God and are patriotic. We believe in voting (even if we don't always do it), and we think it's wrong for married people to have affairs (even if we are and still do! Somebody's got to be having all these affairs).

I find it reassuring that most of us believe in these things on this list, but I'm not certain I believe all the things on the list of things that most of us   Does that make sense? Never mind.

Anyway, here's the list of things we can agree on in America.  Well, most of us anyway.

Nearly All Americans:

—believe in God.

—are very patriotic.

—consider preventing terrorism a very important foreign policy goal.

—admire those who get rich by working hard.

—think society should ensure everyone has equal opportunity to succeed.

—think it's important to get more than a high school education.

—favor teaching sex education in public schools.

—find birth control morally acceptable.

—believe cloning humans would be morally wrong.

—believe it's wrong for married people to have affairs.

—are interested in keeping up with national affairs.

—believe it's their duty to always vote.
