A Black Lives Matter protest over the death of George Floyd is planned for the foot of Ocean City's Rt. 52 Bridge at 1pm Tuesday, June 2.

The attached online flyer promoting a peaceful protest, says, "don't be silent during these racial issues join us along the Ocean City Bridge. A red circle illustrates the northern, Somers Point, end of the bridge.

No other information on the flyer indicates who is circulating it, and, according to reporting in the Ocean City Patch, Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian does not know who it is either.

"Police are investigating further, coordinating with several other agencies and preparing for any potential situation. "As we receive additional information, we will inform the public."

George Floyd, was a black man who died in Minneapolis on May 25 after a white police officer pressed his knee on his neck for several minutes. His death has sparked protests and rioting in cities around America over the past week, including a protest that devolved into looting in Atlantic City on Sunday.

A George Floyd protest in Rio Grande Monday drew about 100 people who remained mostly peaceful, according to Middle Township Mayor Tim Donohoe, even while lying in the road for over eight minutes, as a tribute to the time fired Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin kept his knee on Floyd's neck.

Chauvin has been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.
