Super Bowl halftime shows have become enormous extravaganzas, enjoyed by a massive television audience. More than 111 million people were tuned in last year to watch Beyonce, Bruno Mars and Coldplay's Chris Martin tear up the stage.

This year for Super Bowl 51, Country star Luke Bryan will sing the national anthem and Lady Gaga will take the stage at halftime. There are reports that Gaga will take to the roof at NRG stadium in Houston for part of her show. According to CBS sports, Lady Gaga and her dancers have been rehearsing and practicing non-stop in her backyard. The show will feature a retrospect of all of her big hits.

Here's a look back at some of my favorite Super Bowl halftime performances.

Bruce Springsteen - Super Bowl 43

This was my absolute favorite! The Boss and the E Street Band rocked the stage in Tampa playing favorites like, Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out and Born to Run.

Paul McCartney - Super Bowl 39

Another great show from a rock legend. Sir Paul McCartney and his super-tight band sounded awesome! Some of the highlights included, Drive My Car, Get Back and Live And Let Die. Too bad the Eagles couldn't have put on better performance as they lost to the Patriots, 24-21.

Michael Jackson - Super Bowl 27

This was the performance that started it all. The King of Pop was on top of his game on this night in Pasadena, California. Performances included Billie Jean, Black Or White and We Are The World. Ratings soared and the Super Bowl halftime became the super spectacle that we know today.

    U2- Super Bowl 36

Emotions were already running high due to the recent September 11th attacks. This performance was a tribute to those who lost their lives on 9/11. The highlight of the show was during Where Streets Have No Name. The background screen featured the names of the 9/11 victims. A powerful performance by the band.

Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake - Super Bowl 38

Not on of my favorite Super Bowl performances, but I felt like I had to include this one due to the controversy that erupted with Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction. I still remember turning to my boys after it happened and asking them if they saw anything. An embarrassing situation to say the least.
