The search is on for the relative who allegedly put a loaded gun in the backpack of a first grader who attends Atlantic Community Charter School in Galloway Township.

Galloway Police say the incident happened on June 6th. On that day, police were called to the school just after 3pm when a 7-year-old was found to be in possession of a loaded Taurus 9mm handgun.

Police say the call to police came from school administrators:

Through the investigation it was determined, the student unknowingly carried the gun to school in a backpack and made school staff aware as soon as it was discovered. The investigation also determined the gun was placed in the backpack, by a relative, who had been staying with the child’s family, in Atlantic City. The suspect, identified as Lamar Keith Williamson, has been charged with Endangering the Welfare of Children, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon by a Prohibited Person (Convicted Felon). A warrant has been issued for Williamson’s arrest. Williamson’s current whereabouts are unknown at this time.
