Fire Forces Evacuation of Hammonton Elementary School

A structure fire in Hammonton forced the evacuation of the neighboring elementary school Tuesday afternoon.

The Press of Atlantic City reports that the neighboring Lanor Villas Condominiums said a garage with an attached apartment was destroyed in a fire call in to 911 at 12:30pm Tuesday.

The Early Childhood Education Center Elementary School to evacuate students to another part of the school.

The two-alarm fire caused plumes of black smoke and destroyed the storage garage. No other buildings were damaged and no one was hurt.

Firefighters from the Elwood and Collings Lake volunteer fire companies assisted in extinguishing the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the police Detective Bureau.
