You know what they say about the lottery - you can not win if you do not play. Unfortunately, It's been my experience that, most of the time, you do not win even when you do play.

A months-long bad stretch of luck has been going on for players of the multi-state Mega Millions Lottery. The last time someone matched all six numbers in the Mega Millions was Feb. 11 this year, a $202 million unclaimed ticket sold in Edison, NJ.

So the jackpot will rise to $378 million with a cash option of $297.6 million for Friday night's drawing, the 14th largest Mega Millions jackpot of all-time.

New to the Mega Millions game?

Here's how you play. Select five numbers from 1 through 70 in the upper play area (white balls), or mark the quick pick box and let the terminal randomly pick some or all of your numbers.

Then select your gold Mega Ball number from 1 through 25, or mark the QP (Quick Pick) box for the machine to randomly select your Mega Ball number.

Each ticket costs $2. The next drawing is Friday, June 5 at 11 p.m.
