This morning's fiery crash on the Garden State Parkway killed a 38-year-old Egg Harbor Township woman.

Dawn Gonzalez, from the Bargaintown section of Egg Harbor Township was pronounced dead at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus.

According to news reports from the Press of Atlantic City and Shore News Today, Gonzalez was driving  in the center lane of the Garden State Parkway, northbound, approaching exit 38 for the Atlantic City Expressway when the car apparently stopped on the highway.

A Mercedes, driven by Thomas Zerbo, 22, of Ocean City, then ran in to the rear of the car, causing it to burst in to flames.  A passerby was able to pull Gonzalez from the car and attempted CPR.

Zerbo was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Mainland Campus for precautionary treatment.

The northbound lanes of the Garden State Parkway were closed until 10:25am as police investigated the accident.

Tonight, friends & co-workers are remembering Dawn Gonzalez as a happy, positive person who was very involved in her community and family.  Gonzalez, who worked for the casinos and was a graduate of Mainland Regional High School, leaves behind her husband and 5-year-old son Daniel.  They have my deepest condolences.
