Egg Harbor Township Schools to Return to All Virtual on Monday

One month after transitioning to a hybrid learning schedule, Egg Harbor Township schools will change back to completely virtual beginning on Monday, Nov.30, citing the increase in Covid-19 cases.

On a robocall to parents Tuesday, Egg Harbor Township Superintendent Kim Gruccio said the rise in positive Covid-19 cases in the school district and in the community lead to the return to remote education.

The district will start all-remote learning Monday, and will remain so until Jan. 19, according to Gruccio's call.

In a letter sent home to parents, school officials said the increasing numbers of students and faculty needing to quarantine had necessitated the move back to all virtual learning...

“The current rise in positive cases of COVID-19 in Atlantic County and our school district has placed a severe strain on our ability to keep our in-person/hybrid offering open at this time. The majority of our reported positive COVID-19 cases appear to have been contracted outside of school. However, as this pandemic continues to spread, we have needed to quarantine students and staff alike. This has created a situation where we lack coverage for classes because many staff are in quarantine or on leave and in some cases classes have had to go completely remote.”

EHT schools will be open Monday for students to get their belongings. Breakfast/lunch pick up and distribution will continue each Monday.

According to statistics from Atlantic County, there were 34 new cases of Covid-19 reported on Tuesday, Nov 24, bringing the total number of cases in the township to 1336 with 26 deaths.
