Every Thursday morning at 7:15am on the Lite Rock Morning Show, the Humane Society of Ocean City brings in the new Lite Rock Pet of the Week.

If you are thinking about adding a pet to your family, please consider adopting from the Humane Society of Ocean City, a no-kill shelter recognized as one of the nation’s top ten animal shelters.

All of the animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped before adoption. All animals also receive an Alumni Card which entitles them to a 10% lifetime discount for veterinary services at the Humane Society of Ocean City clinic.

This week we met Dusty the cat…

Here is some information on Dusty from the Humane Society of Ocean City:

“Dusty was born in the Sultanate of Oman, on the Arabian peninsula and was found by the "Omani Paws Rescue" group on the side of a dirt road (part of his name-sake) when he was ~8 weeks old. After living in foster care for several months, the rescue felt he was ready to find a forever home. The HSOC received an email in November 2016 seeking to transfer Dusty to a rescue here in the USA, we were immediately enamored with him!

So began the second leg of Dusty's journey. Dusty arrived at the HSOC on December 24th, 2016--Christmas Eve! Since then Dusty has worked with the HSOC staff and volunteers to acclimate to domestic life here in the busy suburbs of Southern New Jersey. Life in Oman was very different from life here, so many new things and sounds and scents to take in!

Dusty is quite striking in appearance. Known as a "Wadi" dog, which generally are mixed breeds of Arabian and English Sighthounds. Dusty is tall, sleek, and lean with a short, soft double-coat of white-blonde fur lightly "dusted" with cinnamon highlights (the other part of his name-sake). Brush-tailed, Dusty also has a long snoot with a dark nose; cute, little fuzzy ears that half-droop; and deep, soulful brown eyes. His personality is as engaging as his appearance. Highly intelligent, affectionate, and playful, Dusty's favorite thing is you. He amuses himself with his toys and chews on his bones...but he would rather lay next to you outside on a nice day or romp around in the yard goofing off with you. He loves being outside and the kiddie pool, frequently splashing around for hours with staff and volunteers in the summertime! Dusty has made many friends here in the states, but is still looking for his forever home.

Dusty will make an awesome companion for the right person(s). He is not a family dog and not suitable for life with children. He will likely need to be the only "pet". He needs a person(s) who are capable and experienced with dogs having strong stranger/environmental reactivity. He does warm quickly to new people when properly introduced and by persons with whom he has bond and trust.

Dusty had no friends when he arrived here and has dozens of friends now, he is a friendly pooch...he is cautious and guarded about strangers. He needs a well, high-fenced yard to run and play in. Most of all he needs...a "soulmate(s)". Dusty does not "show well" in the pen. Please inquire to the staff before meeting him in the kennel...Dusty has so much love and joy to give. Let us introduce you to him properly so you also may see the beautiful friend we all have...and maybe you will be the soulmate(s) and forever home he is searching for.."
