No, You Don’t Need to Shave Your Beard Because of Coronavirus
Guys...you can take a sigh of relief. You do NOT have to shave your beards.
A post from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that circulated back in 2017 has popped back up onto our news feeds. But it has nothing to do with prevention methods for the coronavirus.
The chart that you below refers to the use of tight-fitting respirator masks which the CDC has not recommended for our current situation.
"CDC does not recommend the routine use of respirators outside of workplace settings (in the community). Most often, spread of respiratory viruses from person-to-person happens among close contacts (within 6 feet). CDC recommends everyday preventive actions to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, such as avoiding people who are sick, avoiding touching your eyes or nose, and covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue."
And one more time for the people in the back: Yes. Your beards can interfere with respirator masks but this has NOTHING to do with the coronavirus.
We originally came across this topic at Fox40.com but if you take a look at the article closely, you will notice that it is mentioned multiple times that this advice was for back in 2017.
If you also check out Politifact.com, they mention that this post is outdated and does not make sense for our situation. They deem this information false and I agree.
AND REMEMBER: We can flatten the curve. We can beat this thing. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. And we will help you get there.
