With Valentine's Day arriving this weekend the FBI has issued a warning that scammers are looking for potential victims searching for love.

Scammers are out in full force creating fake accounts and identities hoping to attract someone looking for romance. Things can really go wrong and out of control once the the scammer gains your trust, attention and endearment.

Here are some tips to help you not become a victim of a romance scam this Valentine's Day.

• Be careful what you post and make public online. Scammers will use your details shared on social media and dating sites to make you a target.
• Do research on the person's photo and profile using online searches to see if any information has been used before.
•  Always ask a lot of questions and proceed slowly.
• Be aware if the individual seems too perfect or quickly asks you to communicate by leaving a dating service or social media site.
• The scammer may attempt to isolate you from friends and family.
• Never send inappropriate photos of financial information.
• Beware of the individual person promises to meet you in person and then makes excuses why he or she can't.
• Never send money to anyone you have communicated with by phone or online.
