What does it say about the National Association of Counties' Discount Dental Program, that out of 70 counties involved, Atlantic County, with only 500 people participating,  just won the award for best implementation of the program?

There's not nearly enough publicity about an excellent program which is really affordable and available to everyone, and could be saving you 5% to 50% on just about any dental service.

Think of the thousands of uninsured or under-insured people in Atlantic County alone who would benefit from this program?   And those with insurance can also use it also to supplement their insurance plans.

Here's more information on the award-winning Atlantic County Dental Discount Program and how it could save you and your family lots of money on your dental bills!

This is Atlantic County's press release about the dental program.

Atlantic County government was recently recognized with the President’s Award by the National Association of Counties (NACo) and Careington International Corporation for its success in implementing the Dental Discount Program, having obtained the highest number of members among 70 counties currently participating across the country.

Through its membership in NACo, Atlantic County introduced the program to its residents two years ago to help families save money on dental care, orthodontic treatment and other dental services.

“There are currently nearly 500 Atlantic County residents who receive discounts on these services through their membership in the Dental Discount Program,” stated County Executive Dennis Levinson. “Frankly, I am surprised that there are not more who have taken advantage of this program, especially after affordable and accessible dental care was identified as one of the top concerns among residents surveyed by the United Way in its 2010 Community Needs Assessment.”

A growing body of evidence has linked oral health, particularly periodontal (gum) disease, to several chronic diseases, including diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. In pregnant women, poor oral health has also been associated with premature births and low birth weight. These conditions may be prevented in part with regular visits to the dentist.

The Dental Discount Program is not insurance. Anyone may join and there are no age or income restrictions. All household members are eligible to receive a discount of up to 50% on routine dental cleanings, x-rays, braces, dentures, crowns, root canals and more.

Members simply schedule an appointment with a participating dentist or specialist and present their card to receive a discount at the time of service. They can choose from over 400 local and 75,000 national participating service providers.

Membership starts at $6.95 per month and $59 annually for individuals, and $8.95 per month and $69 annually for families. In addition to assisting uninsured residents, it can complement existing health insurance plans and work in conjunction with health savings accounts, flexible spending accounts and health reimbursement arrangements. It is also a cost effective way for younger retirees to meet their dental needs.
