Coffee Talk
I love breakfast. I mean really love breakfast. So you would think I’d make it a point to eat breakfast every day, yet I don’t. It’s more of an afterthought actually. Sometimes I eat breakfast, sometimes I don’t. But I must have my cup (or two or three cups) of java each and every day.
If I’m home, I usually don’t get around to breakfast till much later, or not at all. Just don’t tell my kids. I preach to them all the time about the importance of eating breakfast every single day, yet I don’t always do the same. Yes, I know…practice what you preach. I’ll have to work on that.
When I’m out, I love getting breakfast. It’s the perfect comfort food, any time of day. And what’s breakfast without a cup of coffee? When I started drinking coffee several years ago, it wasn’t because I liked it. I liked the smell of it. I didn’t start liking the taste till years later. With coffee it was more a social thing. I think I had my first cup of coffee in NYC many, many years ago when I was visiting my little sister. And it just seemed like the right thing to do. When in NYC drink coffee. So I did. And eventually I kept drinking it, especially when I started working more and sleeping less. It was no longer just a social thing. A girl needs her caffeine.
Over the years I’ve learned to love coffee, which makes sense. After all, breakfast is my favorite meal, and nothing’s better with breakfast than a good cup of coffee. It brings me back to a nice place in time, when life seemed simpler and there was more time to relax and enjoy breakfast. And even now when I drink coffee, somewhere in the back of my mind I’m sitting in a little cafe in Manhattan, sipping on a cappuccino with a friend. :)
