Cape May County to Get its First Popeyes Chicken

Good news for fans of Popeyes chicken sandwiches. A new Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen fast food restaurant is coming to South Jersey.

The new Popeyes will be built at the intersection of Park Blvd and Rio Grande Ave in Wildwood. The location had been a Texaco gas station that had been vacant since  2007, according to minutes from the Wildwood Planning and Zoning Board approval meeting.

Popeyes has been getting lots of attention lately for their popular spicy fried chicken sandwich, with reports of people waiting at Popeyes drive-thrus for 30 minutes or more  to get one.

The publication Brand Eating raved about the sandwich recently...

Popeyes' Spicy Chicken Sandwich features a chicken breast filet marinated in Louisiana seasonings, then battered and breaded in a new buttermilk coating. The filet is served with barrel-cured pickles and Spicy Mayonnaise on a toasted buttery brioche bun.

While Atlantic and Cumberland counties have Popeye's Louisiana Kitchens, this Wildwood location will be the first in Cape May County.

There is no word on when construction will begin.
