A green fireball spotted a couple days ago in the skies above the Garden State has stumped scientists. Reportedly, at its peak it was as bright as the moon! Did you see it?

Some surmised it was Space X Crew Dragon on their way to space aboard the Falcon 9 rocket, but American Meteor Society reports that trajectory of the fireball was way off that of the space craft.

In a statement, AMS said the fireball could be some sort of asteroid, and offered a more detailed theory that suggests 'it was caused by an object roughly 45 pounds (20 kg) in weight and 10 inches (25 cm) in diameter. The low speed could imply an asteroidal origin.'

A few people who spotted the fireball were able to get video of it streaking across the sky. American Meteor Society posted a clip to its YouTube channel. The fireball has officially been labeled AMS Event: 7540-2021. Check it out for yourself below!

I wish I'd seen it! Things like this give me MAJOR FOMO! But, AMS Event: 7540-2021 certainly looks to have burned quick but fiery. Pretty cool, huh?
